MSU, ICIFE Host 1st Takaful Masterclass in Cagayan de Oro City, Parallel to the 12th AICIF 2024
Mindanao State University and the International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE) hosted the inaugural Takaful Masterclass on November 17, 2024, at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The event, held in parallel with the 12th ASEAN Islamic Conference on Islamic Finance (AICIF) 2024, featured an engaging program with expert speakers from across ASEAN.
The 1st Takaful Masterclass provided professionals with essential knowledge on Islamic insurance, covering its fundamentals, regulatory framework, and risk management, while promoting best practices to support the sector’s growth and foster a more inclusive financial system.
MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno emphasized the university’s commitment to expanding programs that promote inclusivity and ethical governance in Mindanao. While acknowledging the challenges of integrating Takaful into the region, he underscored the potential of MSU to play a key role in fostering community development and inclusivity.
The event covered various aspects of Takaful, including the different models and products, as well as topics such as regulations, compliance, risk management, and case studies. A Q&A session provided an opportunity for participant engagement, and practical sessions allowed attendees to gain hands-on experience to reinforce the day’s learnings.
Attendees included Dr. Al Bismarck Salazar (MAPDS Coordinator), Prof. Abdulmaula Mantawil (MAIS Coordinator), Prof. Rasul Gulo (BAIS Coordinator), Prof. Omar Butuan and Prof. Ansare Unos (Islamic Studies faculty), and Dr. Badrudin K. Abdul (Dean, College of Arts and Sciences).
