MSU-Maguindanao Participates in the 12th ASEAN International Conference on Islamic Finance 2024

The MSU-Maguindanao Islamic Studies faculty members participated in the two-day 12th ASEAN International Conference on Islamic Finance (AICIF) 2024, themed “Islamic Finance for Sustainable Peace and Development: Challenges and Opportunities,” held at the Limketkai, Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro on November 18-19, 2024. The event was hosted by Mindanao State University, headed by MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, and the International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE), headed by Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi Omar.

The 12th AICIF 2024 featured plenary sessions on Islamic finance’s role in stability, fintech integration, and its connection to cryptocurrencies, alongside discussions on microfinance, social impact investing, and sustainable development. The second day emphasized how Islamic finance can promote sustainable development and peace in ASEAN, with a focus on equity, fairness, and ethical investment, offering networking and collaboration opportunities. The day also offered ample opportunities for networking and collaboration.

It concluded with a cultural gala night, where participants celebrated the diverse heritage of the region and strengthened their professional and cultural ties. Throughout the conference, the participants gained insights into the growing role of Islamic finance in achieving sustainable development and cultivating peace, as well as an understanding of the emerging trends in Islamic finance. This enhanced their ability to contribute to the field and apply these insights to local and regional development initiatives.

Abdul, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
