MSU-Maguindanao opens the month-long celebration of the 2023 National Peace Consciousness Month

#MSUMag | The ceremonial banging of the gong signified the opening of the 2023 National Peace Consciousness Month. The opening ceremony which was conducted on September 11, 2023 in front of the Administration Building was organized by the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao and the University Peace Club.

IPDM Director Grant Lu presented to the MSU-Maguindanao community the accomplishments of the university when it comes to peace and development works. He commended the efforts of various committees on the creation of the academic degrees relating to peacebuilding such as Diploma on Women, Peace and Security, Diploma on Bangsamoro Studies, and Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Development Work. Moreover, Director Lu also mentioned how MSU-Maguindanao continues to become a relevant partner of the government in its transformation programs for the MILF and MNLF communities. While he acknowledged that the peace works have gone so far from its new branding in 2021, there are still many works that have to be accomplished in its of becoming the National Peace University.

Vice Chancellor Marissa Parcon delivered a message on behalf of the Chancellor. She challenged the MSU-Maguindanao community to reflect on the theme of this year’s Peace Month Celebration, “Kapayapaan: Responsibilidad ng Bawat Mamamayan”, and to embody peace in their everyday life as MSU employees. She also encouraged them to be doers of peace and peacebuilding.

The banging of gong as a symbol of opening the month-long celebration was led by the Vice Chancellors of the university. Series of activities were presented by Mr. Alvin Lois Pembarat where he also encouraged the maximum participation of the faculty, staff, and students.

The University Peace Club hosted the said event, they also led the presentations to entertain the crowd and meaningfully celebrate peace in the university.
