Prof. Dr. Ramjie Yusop Odin, a fisheries and aquaculture expert of MSU-Maguindanao College of Fisheries served as the Resource Speaker. Throughout the 3-day activity, the participants were equipped with knowledge on the formulation of inland capture fishery survey, harmonized protocols for fish abundance and diversity, and finalized designated study areas.

The following universities were in attendance during the said training-workshop; Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-Gensan), South Cotabato State College (SCSC), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), University of Southern Mindanao- Kabacan and Kidapawan (USM-Kabacan and USM-KCC), Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC), Cotabato State University (CotSU), and Mindanao State University- Maguindanao (MSU-Maguindanao).

The anticipated next steps include scheduling of coordination meetings with other line agencies, integrating the survey of inland capture fisheries into the questionnaire for socio-economic analysis, and conducting series of capacity-building sessions for all project components to enhance research and development capacities and foster collaboration among members of the MinSuPala-IRDC.

This training-workshop is part of activities of project โ€œAssessment and Characterization of Water Quality, Inland Capture Fisheries, Watershed, and Socio-economic of Important Water Bodies for Social and Economic Transformation in Central Mindanao”, funded by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and supervised by the DBM Region XII.

The MINSUPALA IRDC is the brainchild of Secretary Pangandaman, a product of an exploratory meeting last June 1, 2023 at the Greenleaf Hotel. The signing of MOA for IRDC was immediately realized 50 days after the initial consultative meeting, demonstrating SUCโ€™s eagerness to enhance social capital development.
