MSU-Mag inks MoP with 549th Engineer Battalion

#MSUMag โ”‚ A Ceremonial Signing of Memorandum of Partnership between Mindanao State University-Maguindanao headed by its Chancellor, Dr. Bai Hejira Nefertiti Limbona and 549th Engineer Battalion, 54th Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army represented by its Battalion Commander, LTC Donald C. Hugo CE (GSC) PA, was formally inked on January 9, 2023 at the Training Center Hall A, MSU-Maguindanao.

The Memorandum of Partnership strengthens the formed connection between the University and the 549th Engineer Battalion, enabling it to develop its physical and infrastructure facilities by providing engineering equipment, provide human resources through technical assistance in accordance with its mandate, and bring peace and development to Mindanao.

On his message, LTC Hugo extended his utmost gratitude to MSU-Maguindanao for the trust and confidence they have given for the unit. He conveyed that the important role that the government and its institutions play in bringing about peace and development in Mindanao, particularly in the province of Maguindanao and other neighboring provinces. He further added that the 549th Engineer Battalion, Philippine Army had standardized endearing works and conducts development support operations, has been assisting community-initiated projects by providing manpower and equipment support in consonance with the trust of their brigade and their goal in helping people and building communities. They believe that peaceful measures mean to resolve conflicts, also entails respect to human rights, IP culture, and the provision of essential services to the people, the very reason of the partnership agreement. The 549th Engineer Battalion commits to provide engineering, development, and security support to MSU-Maguindanao in line with the Universityโ€™s vision and advocacies to the best of their capabilities.

On behalf of Chancellor, Madame Angelita T. Datucan, the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, stressed that the University is fortunate that this partnership is yet another illustration of the administration’s emphasis on providing a safe space where everyone can continue to receive a high-quality education as they strive to become the premier innovative center of development in the region. As they work closely together in the future with MSU-Maguindanao, they are hopeful that this chance will help them forge a greater, stronger collaboration that will result in the positive change and influence they aspire for.

In her closing remarks, VCPD Dr. Arceli Naraga emphasized that this was one of the first Memorandum of Partnership that MSU-Maguindanao had signed for the year 2023. She underlined the important connection between the academe and the military. She was appreciative that the 549th Engineer Battalion would provide security support for the university.

Present during the ceremonial signing were 1LT Hock Guan De Leon (CE) PA S7, Civil Military Operations Officer and company, VCAA Dr. Marissa N. Parcon, VCRED Dr. Ramjie Y. Odin, Deans, some faculty members and staff.
