Another milestone for Mindanao State University-Maguindanao was marked on April 13, 2026, as the University, led by Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading of the academic building of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences (COECS). The ₱72-million project under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), supported by Senator Rodante D. Marcoleta, advances the University’s expansion to strengthen academic infrastructure and enhance educational quality.
In her address, Chancellor Bai Hejira highlighted the University’s commitment to providing high-quality facilities that support student learning. She noted that the building will also house essential CIEC databases and represents the first phase of a broader development plan. She emphasized the University’s dedication to student welfare, stating, “This is the reason we do what we do, to serve our students better.”
The two-storey facility will include a hydraulics laboratory, advanced drafting rooms, and computer laboratories dedicated to Information Technology and Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering programs. Additional features comprise an audio-visual room, lecture rooms, dedicated spaces for faculty and students, facilities accessible to persons with disabilities, and a prayer room. These amenities are designed to promote both academic excellence and student well-being.
Dr. Raquel D. Santiago-Arenas, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension and concurrent Dean of COECS, underscored the project as a major investment in education, innovation, and regional development. She described the facility as a future hub for IT, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, and Civil Engineering programs, with proposed research centers bridging theory and real-world application. “This is not just a series of classrooms, but a modern and inclusive ecosystem for learning and development,” she emphasized.
