Mindanao State University–Maguindanao in partnership with the Mindanao River Basin Management Council (MRBMC) under the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), held a coordination meeting to explore areas of collaboration and strengthen evidence-based development planning for Mindanao, particularly in relation to river basin management, on February 5, 2026, at the MSU–Maguindanao Training Center.
The MinDA delegation was led by Mr. Gerardo Ramon Cesar B. Reynaldo, Chief of the Area Management Office for South Central Mindanao, and was accompanied by Ms. Glady dela Cruz and Ms. Regine Botenes, Department Management Officer II. MSU–Maguindanao spearheaded by Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, who also serves as Lead Consortium of the Mindanao–Sulu–Palawan Innovative Research and Development Consortium (MinSuPala-IRDC), together with Dr. Raquel D. Santiago-Arenas, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension; Dr. Rowena C. Benavides, Dean of the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies; and Dr. Ramjie Y. Odin, Dean of the College of Fisheries. Discussions focused on integrating MinSuPala-IRDC research outputs into the ongoing updating of the Mindanao River Basin Master Plan, highlighting the importance of locally grounded, science-based data in guiding regional planning and sustainable development. Both institutions also explored possible partnership modalities, including joint research initiatives, data sharing, and technical support, to enhance policy relevance and development impact.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to strengthening institutional linkages between academia and government, ensuring that research informs planning processes and contributes to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development across Mindanao.
