#MSUMag | On July 21, 2023, Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, PhD, led the groundbreaking ceremony of the University Infirmary Hospital funded by the Department of Health with the support of Ministry of Health-BARMM amounting to PhP 14, 970, 370.25.

The medical facility will feature a 25-bed capacity and will be equipped with an emergency room, nurse station, private and public wards, isolation room, university physician consultation room, pantry, pharmacy, stock room, and dental clinic that will provide easy access to emergency care for the community of the university.

In his welcome remarks, VCRE Dr. Ramjie Yusop Odin, conveyed his utmost gratitude to all the individuals who played a pivotal role in making this ceremony a notable one. He also accentuated that the project embodies the spirit of the university’s 50th anniversary, as it stands at the forefront of progress and unites its mission to provide exceptional healthcare services to the communities and stakeholders.

In turn, VCPD Dr. Arceli Naraga, provided an overview of the university’s Infirmary Hospital. She emphasized that the purpose of the infirmary hospital is to serve not only the university, but also its immediate community. The University envisions to be the premier innovative center of development, and it is one step towards achieving this vision. Further, she concluded her message by extending gratitude Chancellor Limbona for her leadership in making this a reality.

Chancellor Limbona gave a short background on how she realized the project. She explained that the project was conceived as a way to address the university’s need for a better facility to provide healthcare to its constituents. She noted that the infirmary hospital is the first phase of a two-phase project. The second phase, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024, will be funded directly by the Department of Health. Chancellor Limbona emphasized that the university’s goal is not only to provide accessible healthcare services to its constituents and to the community, but also to offer medical courses.

BTA Member MP Kadil M. Sinolinding, Jr., Committee on Health Chairperson, represented by Dr. Maleja Daud Jaamil, Supervising Public Affairs Officer, and Dr. Michael A. Macion, FPOA Regional Coordinator for Hospital Concerns of the MOH-BARMM, represented by Ms. Christine Cacayan extended their warmest congratulations to MSU-Maguindanao for the ground breaking ceremony of the Infirmary Hospital. Further, both offices gave its full support for the establishment of the infirmary hospital.

Dr. Rizaldy L. Piang, Minister of Health of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM), represented by Dr. Norman Prince Datumanong, gave full support in the MSU-Maguindanao infirmary hospital and the MOH-BARMM is willing to provide support in terms of equipment, manpower, and capacity building.

In attendance during the ceremony were VCAF Madame Angelita Datucan, the Deans, Program Chairpersons, Infirmary Services Personnel, Division of Student Affairs Personnel, Physical Plant Office Personnel, Incoming and Outgoing SSC Officers, and student officers from various colleges.

The University Infirmary Hospital stands as a symbol of progress and dedicated service, assuring a promising future of exceptional healthcare for both MSU-Maguindanao and the surrounding communities.
