MSU-Maguindanao's CFES Places Top 3 in Wood Identification at 14th National Forestry Olympiad 2024

#MSUMagAt50 | The College of Forestry and Environmental Science (CFES) of Mindanao State University-Maguindanao achieved a top 3 ranking out of 22 participating universities nationwide in the Wood Identification category, identifying 50 wood samples, and placed Top 9 in Forest Surveying, joining a total of 8 events at their first-ever participation in the 14th National Forestry Olympiad (NFO) held February 25 to March 1, 2024, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). 

This National Forestry Olympiad is a competition that tests participants’ knowledge and skills in various aspects of forestry and environmental conservation. Its goal is to promote awareness, education, and interest in forestry-related topics while fostering a sense of environmental stewardship among participants. The competition typically includes tasks such as identifying tree species, understanding forest ecosystems, and showcasing sustainable forestry practices. Also, NFO is an annual event that gathers forestry schools and students from across the Philippines to compete in various forestry-related events.

MSU-Maguindanao student representatives were:
* Roselle Mae Laurie (4th year)
* Datu Ramel G. Tungangen (3rd year)
* Ben G. Dres (3rd year)
* Abduljasem Abas (2nd year)

They were coached by Mr. Christian C. Estrologo, RF and Mr. Jayric F. Villareal.

MSU-Maguindanao’s CFES is commended for its achievement in the NFO, bringing pride to the university of its forestry education program.
