MSU-Maguindanao Takes Part in International Training on Cage-free Innovation and Welfare Hub in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

SEARCA, in collaboration with Global Food Partners, Aeres University of Applied Sciences, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, successfully organized a comprehensive training program in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on July 9 to 15, 2023.

Dr. Ali-Akbar M. Kusin, the University Veterinarian from the Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture joined the said event. The program employed a hybrid approach, combining both online and face-to-face sessions. The participants were required to complete an extensive online course consisting of twenty-two (22) modules that focused on cage-free practices and animal welfare in layer chicken farming. This prerequisite training aimed to provide a solid foundation for the subsequent face-to-face sessions.

The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada hosted the face-to-face training, attracting a diverse group of thirty-one (31) participants from various universities in the Philippines. The program encompassed nine (9) theoretical training sessions and six (6) practical training sessions, enabling participants to acquire both knowledge and hands-on experience.

Acknowledging the significance of this training program, the Commission on Higher Education awarded it under the prestigious LevelUPHEI AFAR Program. This initiative aims to empower faculty, researchers, and government employees, fostering the advancement of knowledge, innovation, research, extension, and development within the agricultural sector.

The hybrid training on cage-free layer chicken farming served as a remarkable opportunity for participants to enhance their expertise, contributing to the sustainable growth and improvement of the agricultural industry.
