𝐌𝐒𝐔-𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐎𝐔 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐂𝐏𝐂𝐇

#MSUMagAt50 | Mindanao State University-Maguindanao, headed by Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH), headed by Dr. Salem Y. Lingasa, officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Strengthening of Continuous Initiatives on the Preservation and Promotion of Maguindanaon Culture on July 18, 2024, at the Multimedia Conference, Tamontaka Campus, MSU-Maguindanao.

The MOU aims to strengthen and promote the preservation and development of Maguindanaon culture. This partnership combines MSU-Maguindanao’s academic expertise in instruction, research, extension, and production with BCPCH’s mandate to safeguard the Bangsamoro people’s history, culture, arts, traditions, and rich cultural heritage. It also aims to cultivate cultural education, facilitate training and apprenticeship opportunities, provide resource materials and venues for cultural activities, and support the development of cultural policies and projects. The goal is to create a synergistic relationship that enhances cultural initiatives within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, ensuring the promotion and preservation of the Bangsamoro people’s unique heritage.

Chancellor Limbona emphasized the importance of authentic narratives in education and noted that over the years, many stories have evolved and included innovations. She mentioned the timeliness of these efforts, especially with the impending renaming of the CCA to its original name, the Institute of Mindanao for Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, the goal of this university is to document and preserve the cultures of Maguindanao as well as those of other tribal communities in the region, covering both performing arts and traditional practices.

Dr. Lingasa, the BCPCH Chairperson, conveyed the critical role of accurate and authentic historical narratives. He emphasized the significance of documenting the Bangsamoro history with integrity and precision to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate their heritage. Hence, he asserted the collaborative spirit necessary to achieve these goals, noting that the combined efforts of academic and cultural institutions are essential for producing a comprehensive and inclusive history.
