Mindanao State University–Maguindanao and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), led by Administrator Dr. Dexter R. Buted, along with other project partners, formally entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on October 22, 2025, at Sequoia Hotel, Mother Ignacia Avenue, Quezon City, to implement the Massive Coconut Planting Program (MCPP) in Maguindanao.
Chancellor Limbona reaffirmed MSU-Maguindanao’s commitment to the PCA, highlighting the University’s role in the advancement and growth of the Philippine coconut industry. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute and affirmed strong support for the initiative as part of the University’s production mandate and its goal of building a progressive and sustainable community for a shared future for mankind.
As part of this initiative, the PCA will provide ₱2.09 million in financial support for the cultivation and distribution of 22,000 high-quality coconut seedlings, reinforcing efforts toward sustainable coconut production in the province. The collaboration aims to boost farm productivity, increase farmers’ income, and strengthen the coconut industry through sustainable planting and replanting activities.
Both parties committed to ensuring the success of the program through proper nursery establishment, technical assistance, and regular monitoring. The agreement will take effect for one year.
The event was attended by Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona and Dr. Rowena C. Benavides, Dean of the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies, who joined key partners in reaffirming their commitment to advancing sustainable coconut production and community development.
The PCA–BARMM, headed by Regional Manager Datumanong U. Pendi, has also extended significant support to the program, further strengthening the partnership’s implementation and impact in the region.
The project supports SDGs 1, 2, 13, 15, and 17, promoting sustainability through poverty reduction, agricultural growth, environmental protection, and multi-sectoral collaboration.
