January 20, 2026 — Mindanao State University–Maguindanao (MSU–Maguindanao) Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona paid a courtesy visit to Rolando U. Toledo, Acting Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), to discuss ongoing institutional developments and provide updates on the support extended by the Department to the University.
During the meeting, Chancellor Limbona expressed appreciation for DBM’s continued assistance and outlined key academic and research initiatives that have benefited from the Department’s support. The discussion highlighted MSU–Maguindanao’s strategic direction in strengthening research, innovation, and peace-responsive education in the Bangsamoro region.
The Chancellor also met with Acting Assistant Secretary Ryan S. Lita and Director Vivien Labastilla of the Budget and Management Bureau F, and Atty. Jose Miguel B. Solis, Acting Director of the Philippine Open Government Partnership—Project Management Office to present updates on two major initiatives: the MINSUPALA Innovative Research and Development Consortium and the Diploma in Women, Peace and Security (DWPS).
The MINSUPALA Innovative Research and Development Consortium aims to enhance collaboration among institutions in Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan, fostering research partnerships that respond to regional development challenges through innovation and evidence-based policymaking.
Meanwhile, updates were shared on the historic Diploma in Women, Peace and Security program—the first of its kind in Asia—which continues to produce practitioners and leaders advancing gender-responsive peacebuilding across government agencies and communities. The program reflects MSU–Maguindanao’s broader commitment to inclusive governance, sustainable peace, and transformative education in conflict-affected areas.
The courtesy visit served as an opportunity to reaffirm institutional partnerships between MSU–Maguindanao and DBM, particularly in ensuring that financial stewardship and strategic investments in higher education contribute meaningfully to regional stability and national development.
Chancellor Limbona was joined by Dr. Raquel D. Santiago-Arenas, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension; Associate Professor Grant Warren D. Lu, Special Assistant to the Chancellor; and Mr. Asnawi S. Limbona, Consultant for Political and Security Affairs.
The engagement underscores MSU–Maguindanao’s continued efforts to align its academic and research programs with national development priorities while advancing peacebuilding and innovation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
