MSU-Maguindanao Opens Extension Campus in Parang Municipality

On August 5, 2024, Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, Parang Municipal Mayor Cahar P. Ibay and Buldon Municipal Mayor Pahima A. Manalao inaugurated the new extension campus of MSU-Maguindanao in Brgy Sarmiento, Parang Municipality.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for MSU-Maguindanao’s new extension campus in Brgy Sarmiento, Parang Municipality, was led by Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona, Parang Municipal Mayor Cahar P. Ibay with Buldon Municipal Mayor Pahima A. Manalao.

In her message, Chancellor Limbona conveyed her gratitude to the leadership of Mayor Ibay, for their trust in establishing the extension campus within the municipality. She highlighted that this educational expansion represents a significant opportunity for residents in the Iranon corridors to access free higher education while living close to their families and communities. The extension campus is designed to foster academic growth and local ties.

Mayor Ibay voiced his gratitude to MSU-Maguindanao and the MSU System for granting his request to establish an extension campus. He assured everyone his full support to the university, stating that providing the youth with quality education is part of his advocacy. He emphasized that bringing education closer to them prevents them from having to travel far and helps keep them on the right path. He concluded by saying, “..yung pagmamahal natin sa pamilya, yung pagmamahal natin sa bayan, maaachieved lang natin ito kung merong quality education na pwede nating maipamana sa ating mga anak”.

Similarly, Mayor Pahima A. Manalao of Buldon is grateful for the establishing an extension campus near Buldon Municipality. She recognized that the high cost of education is a challenge for their residents and noted that this new extension campus would make it easier for her them attend school. Thus, she pledged her commitment to support the extension campus by encouraging students in her municipality who cannot afford education to enroll at MSU-Maguindanao Parang Campus.

Currently, the MSU-Maguindanao Parang Campus offers four programs with 72 students officially enrolled and is led by Parang Campus Director Prof. Maricor G. Bayog.

Also present during the ribbon cutting ceremony were the LGU Officials of Parang Municipality including Vice Mayor Hon. Adnan Biruar, Usman Ibay III, the Parang Administrator, Hussien Lidasan, Housing President, Vandelion Valiao, Punong Barangay, Orlando Lopez, the 4 Vice Chancellors of MSU-Maguindanao, Deans of Education and Public Affairs and Government, Faculty of Social Work Department and other officials of the University.
