VCPD Dr. Arceli B. Naraga, expressed her gratitude to three distinguished senators—Sec. Sonny Angara, Senator Pia Cayetano, and Senator Bong Go—as well as the Philippine Sports Commission for their invaluable support in making the Sportsfest a reality.

Sec. Sonny Angara, represented by Mr. Nino Nunez, emphasized the senator’s commitment to sports, saying, “Dahil si Senator Sonny Angara ay talagang supportive sa palakasan, talagang gusto niyang i-enhance ang skills at mga talento ng kabataan sa sports.”

Similarly, Sen. Pia Cayetano, represented by Mr. Matthew Ray Marasigan, highlighted her advocacy for sports, especially for students, stating, “Gusto ko lamang sabihin sa ating mga munting estudyante at atleta na si Sen. Pia Cayetano, bilang isang atleta rin katulad ninyo, ay naniniwala na bawat estudyante ay dapat makatanggap ng tamang suporta. Hangga’t maaari, gusto ni Sen. Pia Cayetano na masuportahan ang mga estudyante sa larangan ng edukasyon at sports, dahil naniniwala siya na ang sports ay hindi lamang laro o kompetisyon, kundi isang paraan ng paghubog ng karakter na magagamit sa hinaharap.”

Sen. Bong Go, represented by Ms. Karen Cloribel, also conveyed the senator’s strong support for sports, saying, “Si Sen. Bong Go ay grabe ang suporta, lalo na pagdating sa sports. Sana ienjoy lang natin ang tatlong araw ng kompetisyon—walang awayan, walang sakitan, enjoy lang.” Sen. Bong Go also prepared a video message to inspire the athletes, emphasizing the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, and encouraging everyone to compete with integrity and fairness.

The ceremony continued with the Oath of Sportsmanship, where participants pledged to uphold the principles of fair play, respect, and camaraderie. The Lighting of the Torch and the Ceremonial Toss officially marked the commencement of Sportsfest 2024.
