MSU-Maguindanao in Paglat Strengthens Academic and Community Linkages through Stakeholders’ Meeting and Student Orientation

The Mindanao State University-Maguindanao in Paglat successfully conducted its Stakeholders’ Meeting and Student Orientation on August 27, 2025, at the Paglat Municipal College (PMC) Gymnasium. The event brought together school heads, LGU officials, local leaders, students, parents, and partner stakeholders, underscoring MSU-Maguindanao’s commitment to inclusive education, collaborative governance, and student empowerment.

Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona emphasized the pressing challenges faced by students who often struggle to meet basic needs while pursuing their studies. “What we want is for our students to be provided with what they need so that when they finish college, they will pass the board exam or bar and, hopefully, the skills and competence they acquire at MSU-Maguindanao will be enough for them to secure a decent job in their chosen field,” she said, urging stakeholders to share in the institution’s mission of building “a shared future for mankind.”

The morning session featured a presentation of MSU-Maguindanao’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values, followed by welcome remarks from Asst. Prof. Pinky A. Gumogda, Director of MSU-Maguindanao in Paglat. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Marissa N. Parcon formally introduced the heads of offices, deans, directors, and faculty members, presenting the university’s academic team.

Hon. Engr. Abdulkarim T. Langkuno, former mayor of Paglat and President of PMC, reaffirmed his support for the continuing academic partnership between MSU-Maguindanao and PMC. This was followed by the presentation of development plans and stakeholder projects by Dr. Arceli B. Naraga, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, and Prof. John Paul Cabotaje, representing Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Raquel D. Santiago-Arenas.

An open forum allowed participants to raise concerns and inquiries, which were addressed by Chancellor Limbona, Vice Chancellor Parcon, and PMC President Langkuno. The morning session concluded with a vibrant cultural performance from the MSU-Maguindanao Gandingan Cultural Dance Troupe. Messages of support and commitment were also shared by Hon. Jayhan M. Langkuno, Municipal Councillor for the Education Sector; Jeddalyn C. Langkuno, Municipal Administrator; Hon. Mac Mac Sapal, SK Federation President; and Ms. Nora P. Ambalgan, GADC Focal Person and Municipal Tourism Officer.

The afternoon session opened with another cultural performance by the Gandingan Cultural Dance Troupe, setting the tone for the Student Orientation. Asst. Prof. Julmaherria M. Salipada, Director of the Division of Student Affairs, presented the University Policies and Student Handbook, while Mr. John Carlo N. Parcon, Director of the Admission Office, discussed the new admission policy. Updates on university programs and services were also presented by Asst. Prof. Alvin Lois A. Pembarat (IPDM), Dr. Margie D. Fiesta (Guidance and Counseling Office), and Dr. Firkhan Ahmad Estrella (University Infirmary).

To encourage student involvement, Mr. Emelthon D. Mabang, OIC SSC President, led the presentation of booths and club recruitment activities. An open forum followed, giving students the opportunity to clarify policies and raise concerns. The orientation concluded with closing remarks affirming the university’s commitment to promoting an academic environment that is responsive, inclusive, and student-centered.

Through this two-part program, MSU-Maguindanao in Paglat not only strengthened partnerships with stakeholders but also ensured that students are equipped with the knowledge, support, and opportunities they need to thrive in their academic journey.
