IPDM, CIEC, and the Institute of Management Partner with the UK Government, UNDP-Philippines, and UP Open University for a Learning Session on Fully-Online Learning Modality in Preparation for Virtual Postgraduate Classes
The Mindanao State University-Maguindanao’s Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao, Center for Information, Education, and Communication, and the Institute of Management in collaboration with the UK Government, United Nations Development Programme and UP Open University successfully conducted a comprehensive learning session on full online learning modality on July 25-26, 2024 at Simeon Datumanong Hall, MSU-Maguindanao Institute of Management in preparation for the virtual post-graduate classes which includes the Diploma in Women, Peace, and Security. This initiative aimed to equip the faculty with essential skills and knowledge to smoothly transition to online teaching, enhancing their capability to deliver quality education virtually.
The first session was delivered by Dr. Arceli B. Naraga, the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development of MSU-Maguindanao and a distinguished alumna of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Dr. Naraga shared her invaluable experiences from participating in a full-online diploma program. She highlighted the various challenges and successes associated with online learning, providing a realistic perspective that resonated with the faculty members. Her insights were particularly beneficial in helping the faculty understand the dynamics of online education and prepare for potential challenges.
Following Dr. Naraga’s session, Asst. Prof. Datu Nazrullah Abdul Rauf S. Macalandong conducted an engaging re-orientation on the use of the Learning Management System (LMS). He emphasized the importance of contextualizing the LMS to fit the specific needs of the DWPS program. Prof. Macalandong’s discussion highlighted how effective utilization of the LMS can enhance student engagement and streamline the online learning process, making it more accessible and efficient for both professors and students.
The third session was delivered by Dr. Reinald Adrian D. Pugoy, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of the Philippines Open University. Dr. Pugoy shared his expertise on strategies for facilitating fully online classes. His presentation was filled with practical tips and innovative methods to ensure that online classes remain interactive, engaging, and effective. He provided a variety of tools and techniques that faculty members could employ to foster a productive online learning environment.
In addition to the expert-led sessions, Prof. Princess Sheryn Mamucao, the Chairperson of the DWPS, conducted an orientation on the specific tasks and responsibilities of teachers and teaching assistants within the DWPS program. Her session clarified the roles and expectations, ensuring that the faculty is well-prepared to support students effectively in the online learning environment.
This 2-day hybrid activity was vital in aligning the faculty’s efforts and ensuring a cohesive approach in delivering the program.
