𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙤𝙣𝙨

#MSUMag | Mindanao State University – Maguindanao commemorates their 45th Commencement Exercises filled with anticipation, pride, and joy as the graduates marched into a new chapter of their lives on July 19, 2023 at the Datu Odin Sinsuat Gymnasium.

Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti Limbona expressed great honor and pleasure in welcoming everyone to this year’s commencement exercises. She extended her gratitude to the parents and guardians of the graduating batch for their support as the graduates prepare to venture on new paths beyond the university. Chancellor Limbona acknowledged the significance of their decision to make MSU-Maguindanao a part of their lives and encouraged them to carry the institution’s core values as they step into the next phase of their journey. She concluded with a heartfelt “Alhamdulillah for today”.

MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno conferred the degrees to the graduates. In his message, he reminded the graduates to carry the flame of Bangsamoro Pride and encouraged them to view setbacks as opportunities for growth, relying on faith in Allah to overcome challenges. Embracing their unique cultural identity, he urged them to be agents of positive change and champions of peace, shaping the future of the Bangsamoro region and beyond.

Secretary Robert E.A. Borje, the Guest of Honor and Speaker, delivered a profound and inspirational speech during the momentous occasion of the 45th Commencement Exercises of MSU-Maguindanao. He placed great emphasis on the transformative power of trials and tribulations in shaping an individual’s character. He also encouraged the graduates to transition from a self-centric “me” mentality to a more inclusive and cooperative “we” mentality, encouraging synergy and alliances that can lead to a profound and positive impact on society. Furthermore, he highlighted the pressing issue of climate change and called upon the graduates to contribute to building a climate-resilient, climate-smart and sustainable future through collaboration and utilizing their unique perspectives and lessons learned at MSU-Maguindanao. The speaker shared his experience in foreign affairs, where he found strength in his provincial background. In closing, Secretary Borje encouraged the graduates to find their place in the sun, collaborate, be resilient, and make a positive impact in their communities and the world, uplifting the vulnerable and creating a just and sustainable future.

Ms. Veanamarie Elise Santillan, MSU System Student Regent, led the pledge of loyalty to the Alma Mater. Following this, Dr. Renato Boniao, MSU System Alumni Regent, conducted the induction of graduates to the Alumni Association. Mr. Suwaidi Ebrahim, former Student Regent, was honored with a cash award of 5,000 pesos from Alumni Regent Boniao in recognition of his outstanding contributions. In addition, Secretary Borje, the Commencement Speaker, also presented Mr. Ebrahim with an additional cash award.

Class valedictorian Ms. Rahima Akmad shared a heartfelt and inspiring personal journey. She recounted her humble beginnings and the challenges she faced, from being a scared and struggling student to becoming the accomplished person she is today. Her determination to become a teacher and contribute positively to society was fueled by the support and belief in the value of education from her parents and former teachers. She expressed her gratitude to MSU-Maguindanao for providing quality education and opportunities, allowing her to reconnect with her past, build her present, and prepare for her future. The valedictorian encouraged her fellow graduates to continue proving themselves and reconnecting with the ideals of the university. Furthermore, the class valedictorian also received 10,000 pesos from Secretary Borje for being recognized as an outstanding achiever.

The 45th Commencement Exercises at Mindanao State University – Maguindanao was a momentous occasion that marked the culmination of years of academic achievement for the graduating class of 2023. The graduates, who represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, have now been equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to make a positive impact in the world. They have demonstrated their commitment to resiliency in the face of adversity, and their potential to be leaders in their respective fields.
