2023 Angara Sportsfest: A Celebration of Sports and Friendship at MSU-Maguindanao

Mindanao State University-Maguindanao organized its 3-day 2023 Angara Sportsfest with the support of Senator Juan Eduardo “Sonny” M. Angara, represented by Mr. Nino A. Nuńez, and the Philippine Sports Commission from September 25 to 27, 2023.

The 2023 Angara Sportsfest at MSU-Maguindanao serves as a testament to the power of sports in strengthening unity, promoting well-being, and building lasting friendships. It is a celebration not only of athleticism but also of the shared values of determination, resilience, and the sporting spirit of the Maguindanao community. Rain or shine, the echoes of cheers and the warmth of camaraderie will linger, reminding everyone that in the world of sports, we are all winners. It brought together students, athletes, coaches, and sports officials, showcasing the spirit of unity and sportsmanship. The parade marked the beginning of the students’ excitement, setting the stage for a celebration of athletic prowess.

In her remarks, VCAF Madame Angelita T. Datucan emphasized the significance of the sportsfest in providing opportunities to students, including the children of fisherfolk, farmers, and former combatants. She expressed gratitude to Senator Angara for his support, accentuating the university’s commitment to delivering quality education. 

Mr. Nino A. Nuńez, Political Affairs Officer from the Office of Senator Sonny Angara and the Guest of Honor and Speaker at the Angara Sportsfest, expressed his joy at the high level of student participation in the event. He expressed appreciation to Chancellor Limbona, university officials, and students for their enthusiastic and active participation. He reflected on the purpose of organizing such events, highlighting their primary focus on benefiting students, even in the face of ongoing pandemic challenges. In addition, Mr. Nuńez emphasized Senator Angara’s dedication to promoting health and well-being through sports and his consistent support for various sporting events aimed at improving the overall health of Filipinos. He concluded, “Sa larangan ng palakasan, tandaan natin na may nananalo at may natatalo, ngunit sa pagtatapos ng araw, mananatiling magkaibigan pa rin tayo. Sa mundo ng sports, tinatanggap natin ang pagkatalo, ngunit sa parehong oras, nagkakaroon tayo ng mga bagong kaibigan, pati na rin ang mga naging kalaban natin.”

The program concluded with a message from VCAA Marissa N. Parcon. She expressed sincere gratitude to Senator Angara and all those who contributed to the success of the 2023 Angara Sportsfest. Dr. Marissa praised the sportsmanship and unity demonstrated during the event and highlighted the valuable life lessons it imparted, including perseverance, teamwork, discipline, and goal-setting.

Eager and motivated, the students then proceeded to their respective courts to initiate the games, anticipating the competitive sportsmanship that awaited them. 

Present during the event were MSU System Liaison Officer and Director Saidamen Odin Limgas, Vice Chancellors, Deans, Sports officials, student athletes, faculty and staff.
