#MSUMagAt50 | Following the educational sojourn of FPE101 students at Camp Abubakar, a warm reception awaited them as the Local Government Unit of Matanog, under the leadership of Mayor Zohria Bansil-Guro, hosted a Peace Dialogue on December 1-2, 2023.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Matanog’s beautiful beach and sunset, participants of the FPE101 learning visit engaged in debriefing and reflection-sharing sessions facilitated by the University Peace Club. Many students conveyed the transformative impact of the learning visit, particularly for those with personal experiences related to armed conflict.
Assistant Director Princess Sheryn Mamucao of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) inaugurated the peace dialogue, expressing sincere gratitude to the peace partners who made the learning visit possible for MSU – Maguindanao students. Commissioner Nas Dunding of the Bangsamoro Youth Commission emphasized the importance of providing students with opportunities to hear valuable peace stories. He underscored the strengthened partnership between MSU – Maguindanao and BYC, emphasizing how these narratives can inform policies to enhance the governance of the Bangsamoro region.
In her address, Mayor Zohria Bansil-Guro, shed light on Matanog’s programs aimed at sustaining peace gains in the BARMM and ensuring universal access to education for all young communities. She also shared collaborative initiatives within the Iranun Corridor to fortify Iranun communities, acknowledging the struggles of women leaders and mothers while emphasizing their resilience and determination to lead. Vice Mayor Sanaira Ali also highlighted Matanog’s commitment to good governance and its pivotal role in uplifting community lives.
