Maguindanao, Philippines – July 28, 2025 – A total of 100 participants, consisting of farmers and agricultural technicians from various municipalities in Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte attended the Orientation on the “Conduct of Halal Livestock Farmer Field School and Management of Halal Livestock Demonstration Farm for Goat and Cattle” held at the Audio-Visual Room of Mindanao State University – Maguindanao. Organized in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UN-FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), the activity aimed to build the capacity of local farmers to meet international Halal standards. Topics included Halal principles, animal welfare, biosecurity measures, and sustainable livestock management tailored for Muslim-majority communities. MAFAR officials reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening Halal agri-fishery systems in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The involvement of agricultural technicians was highlighted as a strategic approach to ensure that the knowledge gained during the training is cascaded effectively at the grassroots level. Following the lecture sessions, participants were taken on a field visit to the Livestock Housing and Facilities to observe the practical application of Halal livestock management practices. The activity served as the first step in a series of capacity-building programs through Farmers’ Field School and pilot projects that will continue in the coming months, with the goal of positioning Maguindanao as a model for Halal livestock production in the Bangsamoro region.
