Mindanao State University–Maguindanao and Prince of Songkla University (PSU) marked a significant milestone in international academic cooperation through the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 28, 2026.
The agreement establishes a collaborative framework to advance the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. It was formalized alongside a Learning Exchange at PSU’s Pattani Campus, supported by UNDP Philippines and the British Embassy Manila, with the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID) playing a key role in implementing the Diploma in Women, Peace and Security (DWPS) program.
The ceremony was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kusuma Kooyai, Director of the Institute for Peace Studies at PSU, representing University President Prof. Dr. Niwat Keawpradub. Representing MSU-Maguindanao headed by Chancellor Bai Hejira Limbona was Assoc. Prof. Saima S. Maulana, Director of the Institute of Management, joined by Dr. Al-Hassan, Dr. Princess Mamucao, Prof. Bai Putri Amil, and students from the second cohort of the DWPS program.
Anchored on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, the MoU strengthens collaboration in research, faculty exchange, capacity building, and international immersion. These efforts aim to promote gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive approaches in education, research, and community engagement.
Through this partnership, both institutions will co-develop academic programs, support policy initiatives, and engage stakeholders in advancing WPS within higher education.
The MoU marks a strategic step in strengthening institutional ties and underscores the value of cross-border academic collaboration in addressing complex social challenges. It further aims to equip educators, scholars, and future leaders with the competencies needed to engage conflict-affected communities with inclusivity and a sustained commitment to peace.
