The College of Fisheries, formerly Department of Fisheries, was formally opened at the Mindanao State University – Maguindanao Campus on July 23, 1982 under the BOR Resolution No. 821 s. 1973. The creation of the College entails among others three objectives such as: i) to produce graduates that can provide technical skill and know-how to serve in the development of vast fisheries resources in the entire province of Cotabato; ii) to conduct researches that will identify the needs and assist the solutions in the production of fish and other aquatic products, and; iii) to undertake technology transfer to people involved in the production fish and other commercially important aquatic organisms.
In its operation, the College originally offered Bachelor of Science in Fisheries Major in Inland Fisheries and Diploma in Fisheries Technology Major in Fish Culture. At present, the College is offering Bachelor of Science in Fisheries Program and Diploma in Fisheries Technology major in Aquaculture and Fish Processing.
